Tupac Shakur was an American rapper, actor and he went by the name of 2pac. He was one of the best selling music artist of all time. He wrote a little quote about a messed up rose growing through concrete. In his quote he claims that the American Dream can be successful for anyone but there will be obstacles you have to pass to make it there.
Tupac says that seeing a rose grow from concrete is unusual and is somewhat a miracle. He says this because it's normal for a rose to grow in a garden but it never happens out of a rock. He's saying how come we are so fascinated by a beat up slanted rose coming from the ground but we are quick to judge when we see a boy that has had a rough past because of where he came from making it in life.
He uses a lot of analogies in his quote. For example he compares himself to the rose and how the Rose is slanted and has messed up petals but him also having ups and downs from where he come from. He also compares people being so amazed that a rose is growing from concrete but they're quick to judge when it comes to him being successful because of him growing up out of the dirtiest circumstance. Tupac also uses imagery when he talks about him being a dirty Rose slanted to the side which causes me to imagine what that looks like.
He wonders why they're amazed by a rose out of concrete even though it has bruises but they still aren't impressed of him being successful even though himself had bruises in his past too. Even though Tupac came from a rough past he was still one of the best selling music artist of all time.

Assertion Analysis #2: Burger King Bill of Rights
My experience at Burger King was me not having it my way. According to this quote written by the CEO of Burger King Brad Blum he claims that we can have it our way but in this case I didn't. I went to Burger King a while ago and I wanted an extra sweet and sour sauce and they wouldn't give it to me. The only way the worker would give me more sauce is if I paid extra for it. I did not want to pay extra for a sauce therefore they didn't give it to me so I left because I couldn't have it my way. Which reminds me of how those who don't live in the American Dream can't have it their way because of reality.
Brad Blum, CEO of Burger King says that we, the audience can have it our way. We have the right to do whatever we please. We have the right to do something great and be tired after finishing it. You also have the right to believe that you're apart of the dream when wearing your paper crown from Burger King but you also have a choice live in reality. You have the right to either stand up for what your believe in or to not do anything. Last you have the right to completely ignore him and go on with your life. You can have it your way.
The techniques he in the quote is ethos and pathos. He uses ethos by convincing us that we can have it our way. Pathos is an appeal to emotion and convincing an argument towards the audience. He uses pathos to also convince us to have it our way but he also uses it to make us have illusions as soon as we start reading it. He uses satire to make a serious situation funny to make it easier to talk about. Irony is also used which is somewhat similar to satire he says "You have the right to put a paper crown on your head and pretend you're the ruler of "(your make-believe kingdom here)". Which is opposite becaus in the real world it's not make believe.
I don't agree with him and his way of thinking because I couldn't have it my way at Burger King. People who live in reality and not on the blanket of make believe can't have it their way because of their race. People who don't have money can't have it their way compared to people who do have money. Therefore I disagree with his claim and I say that we cannot get it our way.
